Investigation Closed into Uses of Force at NH State Prison-Men

Concord, NH – Attorney General John M. Formella announces that the New Hampshire Attorney General’s Office has completed its investigation into two use-of-force incidents against an inmate at the New Hampshire State Prison for Men.

On February 9, 2022, the New Hampshire Attorney General’s Office opened a formal investigation into eleven corrections officers for their use of force concerning one or more of these incidents, and into three additional corrections officers for their documentation concerning one or more of these incidents.

After a thorough investigation, the New Hampshire Attorney General’s Office has concluded that based upon the affirmative defenses available to the corrections officers and other evidentiary issues, there is insufficient evidence to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that any of the corrections officers involved in these incidents committed any criminal offenses. Accordingly, no corrections officer will be charged as a result of this investigation.
