Update on Suspicious Death in Troy, New Hampshire, Piscataqua River Bridge Incident

Concord, NH – Attorney General John M. Formella and State Police Colonel Mark B. Hall announce that members of the Attorney General’s Office and New Hampshire State Police are working with the Maine Attorney General’s Office and Maine State Police to investigate an incident that appears to have started with an adult male killing an adult female at a residence in Troy, New Hampshire overnight and then driving to the Piscataqua River Bridge on Interstate 95 at the Portsmouth, New Hampshire state line with Kittery, Maine.
Early this morning police engaged with the adult male on the bridge in an incident that ended with the male being fatally shot. The Maine Attorney General’s Office is now investigating that officer-involved shooting incident.

Police on the bridge also found an 8-year-old child fatally shot in the male adult’s vehicle. The exact circumstances surrounding this incident remain under active investigation.

There is no threat to the general public at this time. The I-95 Piscataqua River Bridge remains closed in both directions due to the ongoing investigation. Traffic is currently being diverted to the two other local bridges in the area. Motorists are advised to seek alternate routes.

Additional information will be released as it becomes available while protecting the integrity of the investigation.
