Update on Officer-Involved Shooting Investigation in Kensington, New Hampshire

Concord, NH – Attorney General John M. Formella and New Hampshire State Police Colonel Mark B. Hall announce the following update on the investigation into the officer-involved shooting that occurred last night outside a home on Olivia Lane in Kensington, New Hampshire.

On July 22, 2024, at approximately 12:05 p.m., while following up on a mental health call from the previous night, a Kensington police officer received information about a male in the home criminally threatening another occupant. Officers from the Seacoast Emergency Response Team, and ultimately, the Strafford County Regional Tactical Operations Unit responded. A multi-hour standoff followed.

Shortly after 10:30 p.m., during an ensuing encounter with the armed male, six police officers discharged their firearms and one officer discharged a less-lethal munition. Life saving measures were attempted at the scene, but the male suffered lethal injuries and died.

No law enforcement officers were physically injured, and there is no threat to the public stemming from this incident.

The investigation by the New Hampshire Department of Justice and the New Hampshire State Police Major Crimes Unit into the officer-involved shooting is ongoing. An autopsy is being scheduled and the identity of the individual shot will be released after it is completed. The identity of the officers who used less lethal and deadly force will not be disclosed until formal interviews take place. The exact circumstances surrounding this incident remain actively under investigation.
