Market Basket/Demoulas Super Markets - Information for Laid Off Employees

Attorney General Joseph Foster reports that his Office is receiving numerous telephone calls from employees of Market Basket reporting that they have been laid off from their jobs and were instructed to call the Attorney General's Office. The employees are calling requesting information regarding unemployment benefits and other issues relating to their job status. Unlike the Massachusetts Attorney General's Office, the New Hampshire Attorney General's Office does not handle employment issues; New Hampshire Employment Security and the New Hampshire Department of Labor do.

Questions concerning unemployment benefits should be directed to NH Employment Security (NHES). Any employee who has been laid off can file an application for unemployment benefits online at www.nhes.nh.gov. Instructions on filing and a Frequently Asked Questions document specific to Market Basket employees are available on the NHES website. For urgent questions that cannot be answered by these documents, please call NHES at (603) 223-6126. For individuals who do not have access to a computer, there are computers available for use at each of the NH WORKS Local Offices and staff members are on hand to answer questions.

Any other wage and hour questions should be directed to the New Hampshire Department of Labor (NHDOL) at (603) 271-3176, or individuals may go to the NHDOL website, www.nh.gov/labor.
