Homicide in Rochester, New Hampshire

New Hampshire Attorney General Joseph A. Foster and Rochester Police Chief Michael Allen, announce that an investigation is ongoing into a shooting incident that took place last night, Sunday, May 4, 2014, in Rochester, New Hampshire.

At approximately 10:06 p.m., Rochester police officers responded to Sylvain Street for a report of an altercation. When police arrived, they discovered two adult males at the scene, one of whom had been shot. The person who was shot was later identified as Richard Dumont, age 37, of Rochester. Mr. Dumont was treated at the scene and then transported to the hospital. However, he did not survive his injuries. The New Hampshire Chief Medical Examiner's Office will conduct an autopsy on Mr. Dumont tomorrow to determine the cause and manner of his death.

Although the investigation is still in its early stages, the police have determined that the shooting did not involve strangers and that both people involved in the incident have been identified.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
