Autopsy Information on Homicide in Troy, New Hampshire, Piscataqua River Bridge Incident

Concord, NH – Attorney General John M. Formella and State Police Colonel Mark B. Hall announce the following update in relation to the Attorney General’s Office and New Hampshire State Police investigation into the death of an adult female in Troy, New Hampshire.

On August 29, 2024, at approximately 3:00 A.M., police responded to an apartment located at 359 Monadnock Street in Troy, New Hampshire in response to a call from Trent Weston, age 37, reporting that he shot his wife. Police responded to the home and discovered a deceased adult female resident inside.

The adult female that was discovered has been identified as Brittany Weston, age 37, of Troy, New Hampshire. Associate Medical Examiner Abigail Alexander conducted an autopsy of Mrs. Weston’s body today. Dr. Alexander determined that the cause of death was multiple gunshot wounds of the head, and the manner of death was homicide. As used by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, homicide is defined as the killing of one person by another.

Members of both New Hampshire and Maine law enforcement later engaged with Mr. Weston on the I-95 Piscataqua River Bridge, which after hours of negotiation, ended with Mr. Weston being fatally shot. The Maine Attorney General’s Office and Maine State Police continue to investigate that officer-involved shooting.

Following the officer-involved shooting, law enforcement discovered a deceased male child, who has been identified as Benson Weston, age 8. Benson Weston is the son of Trent and Britanny Weston. An autopsy of Benson was conducted by the Maine Office of the Chief Medical Examiner’s (OCME) office. The Maine OCME determined that Benson’s cause of death was multiple gunshot wounds, and his manner of death was homicide. An autopsy was also conducted of Trent Weston and the Maine OCME determined that his cause of death was multiple gunshot wounds, and his manner of death was homicide.

At this time, all evidence indicates that Mr. Weston is responsible for the deaths of both Brittany and Benson Weston. Further information will be provided if and when it becomes available while protecting the integrity of the investigation.
