Office of the Solicitor General
Anthony J. Galdieri serves as Solicitor General of the State of New Hampshire and leads the Appeals Unit at the New Hampshire Department of Justice.
The Office of the Solicitor General represents the State of New Hampshire, its agencies, and its officials in all criminal and civil appeals in the New Hampshire Supreme Court, the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit, the United States Supreme Court, and other state and federal courts. It also reviews cases decided against the State and makes recommendations on whether to appeal, prepares and files amicus curiae briefs in cases in which the State has a significant interest in the legal issue, and provides training to local and county prosecutors on how to develop an appellate record.
The Solicitor General is appointed by the Attorney General, works under the general supervision of the Attorney General, and performs such other work as the Attorney General may assign. The Solicitor General supervises a team of appellate attorneys who perform appellate and post-conviction work for the office.
