Concord, NH – Deputy Attorney General Jane E. Young announces that Charles Eugene Cartier, Jr. (age 80) of Madison, New Hampshire, was arrested on June 19, 2019, on one count of Voting in More than One State Prohibited, for voting in both Madison, New Hampshire and Attleboro, Massachusetts during the November, 2016 General Election.

Mr. Cartier was charged with a class B Felony for violating RSA 659:34-a for knowingly checking in at the checklist in Madison and casting a New Hampshire ballot, after having already cast a ballot in the same election year in Massachusetts.

Mr. Cartier will be arraigned in Carroll County Superior Court on June 28, 2019 at 9:00 a.m.

The arrest and investigation into this case was conducted by Chief Investigator Richard Tracy of the Election Law Unit and is being prosecuted by Assistant Attorney General Nicholas Chong Yen, also of the Election Law Unit. The Carroll County Sherriff's Department assisted in the arrest.

The charges and allegations are merely accusations, and Mr. Cartier is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
