(CONCORD) -- New Hampshire state leaders from all three branches of state government  serving on the interbranch Justice Reinvestment Work Group will be presented with a comprehensive report and set of policy options to increase public safety and reduce spending on corrections at a public meeting on Monday, January 25, 1-4 pm, in Room 305 of the Legislative Office Building.

The New Hampshire justice reinvestment initiative was launched in September 2009 by state leaders from all three branches of government as a bipartisan, interbranch effort to develop a data-driven strategy to reduce crime, reduce corrections spending and reinvest the savings generated in measures that will make New Hampshire safer. The January 25 presentation is the culmination of four months of intensive analysis of criminal justice data in New Hampshire by the Council of State Governments Justice Center, a national nonprofit, nonpartisan organization that has done similar work in Texas and other states.

The Justice Center’s analysis has been informed by broad input from stakeholders in the state’s criminal justice system, including superior and district court judges, county attorneys, defense attorneys, law enforcement, legislators, county corrections superintendents, victim advocates, and behavioral health treatment providers. In attendance will be members of the Justice Reinvestment Work Group, which is chaired by Attorney General Michael Delaney, and includes Senate President Sylvia Larsen, Senator Robert Letourneau, House Speaker Terie Norelli, State Representative Neal Kurk, Supreme Court Chief Justice John Broderick, Corrections Commissioner William Wrenn as well as additional representatives.
