New Hampshire Attorney General Kelly A. Ayotte announces that Michael J. Prince, age 41, a former Jaffrey Police Officer, was arrested today for stealing $1626.00 from the bank account of the Jaffrey Police Association. The Jaffrey Police Association is a nonprofit charitable organization that raises money for the purpose of providing scholarships to students and aid to the families of fallen officers. Prior to his resignation from the Jaffrey Police Department in 2007, Mr. Prince had served as the Jaffrey Police Association treasurer. Attorney General Ayotte said, “The Public Integrity Unit in my Office will continue to actively investigate and vigorously prosecute public officials who criminally violate the public trust and responsibility that goes with holding a public office.”
Mr. Prince was arraigned this morning in Jaffrey District Court on a charge of Theft by Unauthorized Taking, a class A Felony. Bail was set at $2,000 cash or surety. A probable cause hearing is scheduled for April 16, 2008.
