Patient or elder financial exploitation is the illegal or improper use of a patient's trust account or elder's personal funds or assets. It includes the misuse of a Medicaid patient's personal funds. It may also include the misuse of funds by a patient's or elder's Power of Attorney. Patients or elders are most often financially exploited by individuals known to them such as family members, neighbors, or caregivers.
