Charitable Trusts Unit
Attorney General Michael A. Delaney issues the following consumer alert to citizens in the State of New Hampshire:
The Attorney General's Charitable Trusts Unit has become aware, through media reports that Relief Fund of Haiti, an unregistered nonprofit charitable organization, has been operating in New Hampshire. Any nonprofit organization soliciting donations in the State of New Hampshire is required to register with and report to the Attorney General. The Charitable Trusts Unit has sent multiple letters to Relief Fund of Haiti ("the Fund") requesting it to register but all mail has been returned by the post office. Because the Fund is not incorporated, limited information is available regarding its organization and officers and directors.
It is unclear whether the Fund is still operating in New Hampshire. Attorney General Delaney advises any citizen who receives a request from the Fund to exercise caution before making a donation, and to notify the Charitable Trusts Unit at (603) 271-3591 immediately.
