New Hampshire Attorney General Michael A. Delaney, State Police Colonel Robert Quinn, Fire Marshal J. William Degnan and Atkinson Police Chief Philip V. Consentino announce that additional information is available regarding a death investigation in Atkinson, New Hampshire.
The investigation began on Monday, when a woman walking through some woods near a pond off of Pentucket Court in Atkinson came upon a dead body. Investigators located and then recovered the body of an unidentified white adult male. The body was removed to the morgue in Concord where an autopsy was conducted yesterday by Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Thomas A. Andrew.
Dr. Andrew has determined that the male's cause of death was inhalation of smoke, superheated gases and flame. The manner of death is pending at this time.
A preliminary identification of the deceased has been made. However, his identify still needs to be confirmed through DNA or dental records. That process is expected to take at least a week.
Although the investigation is still ongoing, to date there is no evidence of foul play in connection with the death.
