Attorney General Michael Delaney announces that Heidi Murphy, age 48, pled guilty to and was sentenced on two counts of class A felony theft, one count of class B felony theft, and one count of misdemeanor theft. The thefts occurred while she was working in her capacity as the Barnstead Deputy Clerk. Between October 2007 and July 2008, Murphy stole money she collected from four different taxpayers as payment for property taxes they owed to the Town of Barnstead.
Murphy was sentenced to serve twelve months in the House of Corrections with all but three months suspended on one of the felony convictions. In addition, she was ordered to pay restitution in the amount of $5,862.65 to the Town of Barnstead. Murphy was sentenced to additional jail time on the other three theft convictions, all of which was suspended on the condition of her good behavior for a period of five years upon her release from the felony conviction.
