Senior Assistant Attorney General Susan G. Morrell
James Vara, Attorney
New Hampshire Attorney General Michael A. Delaney, State Police Colonel Robert Quinn, and Amherst Police Chief Peter A. Lyon, announce that the Deputy Chief Medical Examiner, Dr. Jennie Duval, has determined the cause of Mark Richardson's (age 24) untimely death.
Mr. Richardson was in Manchester on March 10, 2010, when he experienced medical difficulties and was taken to the Elliott Hospital at approximately 6:30 a.m. The Manchester Police Department was notified and began an investigation. That investigation revealed that Mr. Richardson had been involved in a recent physical altercation in Amherst. The New Hampshire Attorney General's Office, the State Police Major Crime Unit and the Amherst Police Department were all notified and joined the investigation to determine whether that altercation was related to Mr. Richardson's worsening medical condition.
The investigation continued throughout the day and at approximately 2:30 p.m., Mr. Richardson was pronounced dead. Dr. Duval has determined that Mr. Richardson died from an accidental drug overdose. The physical altercation Mr. Richardson was involved in did not contribute to his death.
As a result, no criminal charges will be filed.
