| RELEASE TIME: |

As the weather continues to improve and consumers begin spring and summer projects at home, New Hampshire Attorney General Philip T. McLaughlin cautions consumers to be extremely careful when choosing an individual or business to perform home improvements.
"During this time of year unscrupulous contractors and pavers are known to prey on unwary consumers," McLaughlin stated.
Some tips to avoid home improvement fraud are:
· Obtain several estimates and a list of references prior to signing a contract;
· Get everything in writing;
· Don't be pressured into agreeing to anything you don't understand or do not want;
· Do not pay for work until it is performed;
· Check with the Better Business Bureau and/or the Consumer Protection Bureau at the Attorney General's Office to see if these agencies have received complaints about the business.
"While I certainly note there are many reputable home contractors and paving companies in our State, unfortunately, these types of services continue to be areas where consumers routinely are defrauded. As such, it is important to remind consumers to be extremely careful."
